Exhibition and Award Ceremony
You Khin Memorial Women’s Art Prize 2010
The results are in and the winners will be announced at the award ceremony and exhibition for the You Khin Memorial Women’s Art Prize. The event will open at 6:30pm Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at Java Café & Gallery, speech and awards presented by U.S. Ambassador, HE Carol Rodley.
Since the launch of the prize at the end of March, 45 works from women artists were received from three cities: Siem Reap, Battambang and Phnom Penh. With the support of arts organizations and galleries around the country the art prize had a far-reaching impact.
Of the 45 entries, one will receive the First Place prize that includes an engraved plaque and a cash prize of $800, a secondary prize will be awarded to the student with the highest score who will also receive an engraved plaque and a cash prize of $400. Finally ten artworks will be awarded a certificate for Honorable Mention. The winning artworks were selected by a scoring system based on the following categories: technique, composition, content and material.
In celebration of this inaugural event, a selection of entries will be exhibited from June 23 to July 18, 2010. During the opening the awards will be distributed, a documentary about the art prize by Kate O’Hara will be screened and one of the upcoming women DJs will be creating a festive environment.
